In this paper, I am going to work on Mary Wollstonecraft’s influence in other authors and the huge and decisive importance of her life in her writings, and consequently her attitude towards life and men. What she experienced during her life, made her to produce a kind of literature devoted to demand women’s rights. I will do it by analysing her biography and chronology and locating her in a historical frame for you to understand better her life and the reasons why she had to write this kind of books and no others. In addition, if you want to know more about the author, go to author’s information.
Mary Wollstonecraft was an important English writer who lived during the second half of the eighteenth century, a time of great political and social upheaval throughout Europe and America. She also was one of the most important pioneers in the feminist though.
However, what actually called my attention about the author’s biography was her strength when facing the world. She was a brave fighter her whole life. She began to earn money by herself at the early age of seventeen. Later, she was brave enough to embark in a writing career and she wrote many important books, all of them clearly devoted to women.
Although I going to talk a little bit about every book, I would like to focus specially on the most important one she wrote, or at least the one which caused a big controversy and was a guide or a model to follow by the feminist movement and other writers interested on demanding women’s rights. In order to explain the reasons why she moved toward this direction, it is necessary and fundamental to analyse her life in depth, and that is what I going to do in the first part of my paper, the biography. I will tell you about her life from her childhood until the day she died after giving birth her second daughter, Mary Shelley, and maybe once you have finished to read it, you will be able to understand (as I did) why she became so obsessed by the idea of protecting women. I will do it by means of analysing and discussing each chapter of the author’s biography.
As the woman I am, I felt very attracted by the title of the writing and I wanted to know just a little more about her, in order to understand why she became an example for other people, and also an inspiration for them, as I mentioned in the title of my paper, because later, some authors were inspired by her writing to publish their own book, and finally once she had died she became so famous because of her “A vindication of the rights of women” , and we can notice it because even Godwin, her husband, when published her biography he did it under the title of “Memories of the author of A vindication of the Rights of Woman”, which became as popular as the other one because of her controversial life, a life full of scandals, in the eighteen century’s society.
